Anthony Ogogo 'Drops In' to The Matthew Project

The Matthew Project Youth Team were delighted to have a visit from Sport Relief and a very special guest Anthony Ogogo to find out more about the Comic Relief funded project here in Norfolk.

The Youth Team is funded by Comic Relief to deliver a one to one Life Coaching service, drop-ins, workshops and outreach projects across the county engaging with young adults aged 16-24 years. The team offers support, information and advice on drugs, alcohol and other related issues.

Anthony took time to talk to service users about their experience of engaging with the service and the positive impact the project has had on them. Anthony explained how proud he felt of the project and so humbled by the work of the team.

During the first year of the project the team reported that over 46% of clients have reduced their substance use and over 24% of clients have seen a positive difference in their substance use. Almost 20% of clients have seen a positive change in their physical health and workers have reported that 90% of clients have experienced a positive change in their self-confidence and self-esteem.

93% of young adults participating in workshops and drop-ins indicated that their knowledge of drugs & alcohol has improved as a result of the session and 79% indicated that their knowledge regarding being safe with drugs and alcohol has improved as a result of the session.

Sport Relief brings the entire nation together to get active, raise cash and change lives. Since 2002, Sport Relief has raised over £262 million. Since 1985, Comic Relief has raised over £1billion. That money has helped, and is helping, people living incredibly tough lives, both at home in the UK and across the world.

For Sport Relief 2014, the generous people of the East raised and donated more than £1,790,440 to help transform people's lives across the UK and the world's poorest communities. This money has helped fund more than 210 projects right here in the region.

Sport Relief 2016 will take place from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th March 2016. You can run, swim, cycle or even walk yourself proud at events across the country. There's a distance for everyone in the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Games, whether you're sporty or not. Find out more at
