Do you have some experience as a tradesman?
This is a great opportunity to pass on that knowledge to others and make a difference!
The Matthew Project is a welcoming and vibrant place for building community, providing support, and helping to develop the confidence and skills of those in recovery from substance misuse.
We are looking for volunteers to support the Next Steps Recovery Team to enable service users to learn new skills in the building trade for either self-development and enjoyment and/or to college entry level. Our award-winning Centre in Norwich includes a fully equipped workshop which is currently open Monday to Friday. However, soon, the plan is to open at weekends too.
We recognise that developing new skills helps to increase someone’s confidence, makes a positive contribution to their ongoing recovery, and can increase their employability.
Therefore, we are looking for volunteers who can encourage people to join in and make them feel comfortable by providing a supportive learning environment.
Tasks may include:
· assisting in the development of training plans for building skills’ training;
· delivery of training to small groups;
· ensuring that health and safety requirements are maintained;
· providing guidance in setting up equipment; and
· advising and signposting service users to further building skills training and/or employment opportunities.
Out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed and you will be offered a lunch in our café on the days you volunteer (when the café is open).
Personal qualities are very important to volunteering roles. You will need to be reliable, friendly, enthusiastic, and have a positive attitude to life. We also value good listening and great communication skills. These all need to be coupled with a commitment to substance misuse recovery principles.
The application process will include an interview, referencing and checks with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
