Our Stories
For over 40 years, The Matthew Project has been empowering and supporting individuals facing challenges with substance misuse and mental health.
We are honored to have had such a big impact in the lives of so many people within our community.
On this page, we share some of the powerful stories from people whose lives have been positively impacted by our work.
Their experiences reflect the heart of what we do—and why we continue to do it.

Spotlight Story
One of our members' stories we would like to highlight due to the amazing accomplishment of the individual is Vic's story.
One Year Free from Drugs and Alcohol – A Journey of Hope
We’re thrilled to celebrate an amazing achievement: one year of abstinence from drugs and alcohol!
This journey began back in November 2021, when Vic first came to The Matthew Project and engaged with our Recovery Support Programme (RSP), drop-ins, and Connections.
After moving on in May 2022, she returned in July 2024 to reconnect with the community, especially the women’s group.

In November 2024, she restarted the RSP – and today, she’s marking one full year of freedom.
Her own words say it best: “I made it to 1 year clean of drugs and alcohol 🙏👊🥳❤️🥳 So happy and proud of myself and thank you all for sticking by me. Thank you to staff and the whole community at TMP for your support over the past year”
This milestone is more than a number – it’s a testament to resilience, community, and the power of hope.
At The Matthew Project, we’re proud to walk alongside people as they rebuild their lives and rediscover their potential.
