"Over the years not just within a past role as a Youth and Community Worker, but also in my current role as a student Pastoral Mentor and Safeguarding Lead, I can confirm that I have shared valuable resources/information to individuals who have been caught within the cycle of substance misuse.

Quintessential training as a Substance Misuse Champion has given me further confidence to support, guide and signpost young people to the fundamental services that The Matthew Project offers.

The information covered within the course itself was incredibly useful, updating key terminology and skills that have proved vital in my everyday practice as a pastoral professional.

As a fully fledged champion, I feel incredibly proud and fortunate that I have been able to access such an in-depth course. I actively promote this status within the workplace, with posters on walls, even slides within recent tutor group sessions, cascaded to all students and staff alike.

I can honestly say that this was one of THE best pieces of training I have engaged with. It is so important for this to continue, not just to educate educators, but also to help make a difference to those who may very well be genuinely suffering in darker times."

Our Under 19s Unity Service supports children and young people on a 1:1 basis with their own substance misuse as well as those affected by someone else’s substance use.

1:1 Support

We have a successful one to one support for children and young people and Life Coaching programme for young adults across Norfolk.

We offer the following streams; drugs & alcohol for 19+*, wellbeing and health – Leaflet Linked Below.

We offer a young person a minimum of 6 sessions, supporting them to problem solve, build resilience and develop coping strategies.

As children and young people return to school and other settings after a prolonged time in lockdown, they may need additional support to adjust and transition. We believe we are best placed to support children and young people through this challenging time.

Support can be offered on site, over the phone or virtually via Zoom or Teams.

All face to face sessions will be Covid-secure and the worker will be following government guidelines. All TMP workers have access to PPE, and a full risk assessment will be carried out before face to face work can commence.

*If a young person under 19 years has substance misuse issues or affected by someone else’s substance use they will be referred to Unity, statutory drug & alcohol service. This is a free service.

£37 per session (minimum of 6 sessions)

Funding

We know that as a result of Covid-19 budgets are stretched and where possible we are trying to source funding for the above services and offering these for free to settings.

Where this is not possible, we would be happy to explore other funding or fundraising options that may be available through a partnership approach.
