Pedal Positive Training

last month, Justin Smith (Lead Worker OTW) and TMP Volunteer Jim, undertook a day’s training provided by Cycle UK to gain their Cycling Group Leader Award. The Award enables the holder to promote and organise group cycle rides observing current legislation and law, providing a duty-of-care to participants and to help to introduce others into the benefits of cycling.

After completing an online learning package and webinar and despite the horrendous weather on the day, (torrential rain) both Justin and Jim successfully completed several lead rides around Norwich for the group conducting them in a safe and controlled manner.

The training is part of the new TMP cycling venture ‘Pedal Positive’ which with the support from Cycling UK will help promote cycling as a therapy for both mental and physical fitness. To promote group involvement including both Veterans supported by OTW and those clients accessing Next Steps along with TMP Staff having full access to both group rides and the maintenance workshop. Whilst in its early stages it is hoped to be fully up and running within the next two months. Watch this space for more updates.

By the way if anyone has an adults bike that is gathering dust and wants to donate it to help us get up and running then please contact Justin at [email protected]
