When we think of fundraising, two activities come to mind instantly: bake sales and marathons.
Running is a classic way to raise money for a charity, and remains a firm favourite among The Matthew Project's supporters. It makes sense - you're exercising and taking on an epic challenge while supporting a fantastic cause.
Read on for a summary of Edward Cottington and Matthew Northcott running for The Matthew Project in May 2026.

Edward's Experience Running for The Matthew Project
Edward Cottington from Succession Wealth ran the Milton Keynes Marathon on Sunday 3rd May.
This fantastic event takes runners through the scenic routes of Milton Keynes, with an unforgettable finish inside StadiumMK, complete with a full lap of the pitch and the roar of the crowd.
When asked about his inspiration, Edward said:
I have a strong background in endurance running, having previously completed two ultramarathons and a marathon. Running has always been an important part of my life, and I’m now looking to re-engage with it in a meaningful and purposeful way.
Edward chose The Matthew Project as the charity's mission struck a chord with him. He shared:
This is a cause that genuinely resonates with me. The charity does vital work supporting individuals affected by drug and alcohol addiction. Being a local organisation based in Norwich makes it even more meaningful to contribute and give something back to the community.
Taking part in this challenge allowed Edward to combine a personal goal of returning to running with the opportunity to support a cause he cared about.
Edward raised a phenomenal £235, smashing his £200 target.
Matthew's Experience Running for The Matthew Project
Matthew Northcott ran the Norfolk Half Marathon on Sunday 19th May. This epic run took place in the beautiful local surroundings of Norfolk, beginning and ending in Cromer. Matthew came 42nd in category position.
He set up his Just Giving page to help collect sponsors for his participation in the run. This page let his friends and family donate quickly and securely, and keep up-to-date with the challenge.
Matthew raised an incredible £275 for The Matthew Project.
Our Events & Fundraising Officer Cheryl shared:
I can't stress enough how important these fundraisers are for supporting our members. It can be as simple as providing a freshly cooked meal to a person who's been rough sleeping, all the way to giving our young members one-to-one coaching. Every penny raised makes an impact.
