If you wish to make a meaningful difference to people’s lives, join us as a Trustee.

The Matthew Project is seeking dedicated, compassionate, and strategically minded individuals to join our Board of Trustees. This is a rewarding opportunity to guide and support a well-established Christian charity making a real impact across our community. Drug and alcohol recovery | The Matthew Project | England.

As a trustee, you will help ensure our work is effective, sustainable, and true to our mission. You’ll play a vital role in shaping our vision, strengthening governance, and championing the wellbeing of our clients, volunteers, staff, and wider community.

As part of our Board, you will:

  • Ensure the charity operates in line with its mission, values, and governing documents.

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight across programmes, finances, and risk management.

  • Support and constructively challenge the CEO and senior leadership team.

  • Bring insight, professional expertise, and independent judgement to Board discussions.

  • Promote and uphold our values, ethos, and Christian foundation.

  • Attend six Board meetings a year and contribute to at least one subgroup (Finance, Operational Governance, Income Generation, or Safeguarding).

  • Act as an ambassador for the charity, championing our mission and impact.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds who can bring energy, fresh perspectives, and a commitment to our cause.

You will bring:

  • Enthusiasm for our vision and a willingness to support our Christian ethos.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.

  • Strategic thinking, good judgement, and personal integrity.

  • A commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

  • The ability to engage positively with trustees, staff, volunteers, and partners.

  • Alignment with the Nolan principles of public life.

No previous trustee experience is required—just the right values, willingness to learn, and passion to make a difference. Training and support will be provided.

Time Commitment:

  • Voluntary role

  • 3-year term, renewable for a further 3 years, with the possibility of a final additional year (maximum 7 years)
