The Matthew Project is seeking dedicated, compassionate, and strategically minded individuals to join our Board of Trustees. This is a rewarding opportunity to guide and support a well-established Christian charity making a real impact across our community. Drug and alcohol recovery | The Matthew Project | England.
As a trustee, you will help ensure our work is effective, sustainable, and true to our mission. You’ll play a vital role in shaping our vision, strengthening governance, and championing the wellbeing of our clients, volunteers, staff, and wider community.
As part of our Board, you will:
Ensure the charity operates in line with its mission, values, and governing documents.
Provide strategic leadership and oversight across programmes, finances, and risk management.
Support and constructively challenge the CEO and senior leadership team.
Bring insight, professional expertise, and independent judgement to Board discussions.
Promote and uphold our values, ethos, and Christian foundation.
Attend six Board meetings a year and contribute to at least one subgroup (Finance, Operational Governance, Income Generation, or Safeguarding).
Act as an ambassador for the charity, championing our mission and impact.

No previous trustee experience is required—just the right values, willingness to learn, and passion to make a difference. Training and support will be provided.
Time Commitment:
Voluntary role
3-year term, renewable for a further 3 years, with the possibility of a final additional year (maximum 7 years)
Six Board meetings per year (in person at the Next Steps Centre, Oak Street)
Attendance at special events from time to time
