The Matthew Project (TMP) is a charity dedicated to transforming lives across Norfolk and beyond. We work alongside young people and adults to overcome the impact of drugs, alcohol, and mental health issues so they can live life more fully. Drug and alcohol recovery | The Matthew Project | England.
We are seeking a committed and knowledgeable Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees and play a vital role in ensuring the ongoing financial health and sustainability of our organisation.
You will work closely with our full-time Business & Finance Manager and CEO, providing strategic oversight of TMP’s financial affairs and supporting our mission to deliver high‑quality services for the people and communities we serve.
As Treasurer, you will:
Chair the Finance Committee and help steer TMP’s financial strategy.
Maintain up-to-date awareness of legislative, economic and governance issues affecting the charity sector and brief the Board accordingly.
Monitor, evaluate and report on the financial viability and liquidity of the charity.
Work with the Business & Finance Manager and CEO on financial modelling for key strategic decisions.
Ensure appropriate accounting procedures, policies and internal controls are in place and followed.
Support preparation and presentation of budgets, management accounts and statutory accounts.
Oversee financial aspects of risk management across the organisation.
Help appoint and liaise with external auditors.
Strengthen the Board’s financial understanding and support trustees in fulfilling their financial responsibilities.
You will bring:
Your knowledge and years of experience working as a finance professional.

Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
Strategic thinking, good judgement, and personal integrity.

The ability to engage positively with trustees, staff, volunteers, and partners.

No previous trustee experience is required—just the right values, a willingness to learn, and a passion to make a difference. Training and support will be provided.
Time Commitment:
Voluntary role
3-year term, renewable for a further 3 years, with the possibility of a final additional year (maximum 7 years)
Six Board meetings per year (in person at the Next Steps Centre, Oak Street).
Six Finance Committee meetings per year (held online during the daytime).
Ongoing review of papers, accounts, and responding to Business & Finance Manager queries.
Occasional meetings with external auditors.
Attendance at special events from time to time.
